Boom2:Volume Boost & Equalizer App Reviews

Worth the Coin and a Review

I don’t write app reviews. Boom 2 is so good that I feel like I have to write one. I owned Boom 1 and liked it a lot. Didn’t want to drop the coin to get V2, but finally bit the bullet. The sound improvement from V1 to V2 is nothing short of amazing. If you like V1, you’ll love V2. I honestly can’t figure out how they made it so much better. But, my ears can’t deny it. Buy it.

Terrible app, terrible experience and even worse support

I installed this app based on the reviews and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. Random apps would have no audio, screwing up my work whenever I had to join Skype/Zoom calls. Facetime stopped working. VLC stopped working. Sometimes Audio would work only with headphones plugged in, even after restarting my mac (when was the last time you had to restart your mac?!). Additionally, their support is even worse. They take 2 days to reply to a tweet and 3 days to reply to an email. Even then, their support actually had the nerve to tell me to ‘specify audio settings for EACH app I have installed “ Yea right. That’s something I wanna pay $15 to do! Do yourself a favor, stay away from this piece of garbage.

Over-rated

Claims to be Yosemite compatible but not true in all use cases, so I have doubts about the glowing reviews and ratings. After purchase and download you get an interface with no apparent function. Need to download an additional “enhancement” that actually activates all functions (free-trial artifact or marketing ploy?). On a MacPro this “utility” disabled the System Preference for Sound devices and modified existing preferences for sound output. The Help File available via the interface is actually a quick guide with no actual advice for problems. The interface is buggy - Close and Minimize window buttons, and Quit application icon, trigger an interface freeze. When Minimize does finally work the window closes to the OS X menu bar and other times to the Dock. Application description notes it is not compatible with Airplay, but it probably should add it is buggy with Bluetooth devices and/or MacPro. The version number speaks volumes - version 1 with some enhancements. Buyer beware of v1.4.1.

When it works it’s great!

Keeps causing my mac to panic and restart. Happens at least twice a day unless I have this app turned off. I’m updated to OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 so I’m not sure why this is happening.

boom 2

boom2 is the best voice higher in the app

Pointless and instrusive

I’ve found that most of the settings for this app add a lot of distortion, and it interferes with other apps like Audacity and Pixelmator. I wrote for support but never got an answer.

Works with Yosemite, Great Soundstage

Love it, the soundstage is huge and it really opens up the room.

Superb App

Boom2 is amazing. About 6 months ago I googled to see if there was even a program to make the volume louder on my MBP. I found this program right away. I read a couple reviews, and decided to buy and try. I was glad I did right after I installed it. It has worked flawlessly since I installed it. I can’t believe I used to use my MBP without Boom2.

Go Mac Rather than Boom

Simply turning up the volume of your computer is better than the Boom2.

This app is great

great fidelity increase was experienced. Highly reccomend this great product. For constructive criticism, on my 2016 macbook Pro retina the gain seems a bit high and seems like it could possibly pop or blow the stock speakers if I turn it all the way up.

a nightmare, warning

wow, no one monitors this stuff or looks under the hood. Sure, it will work off the bat, but if your planning on doing anything else with your computers sound, you screwed up. I have found more issues with this than most software, and everyone looks the other way just because it sounds better. Be warned, its full of bugs and your better off getting awsome speakers or using some other method than messing up your operating system. I am a tec and have used this program extensively and have found it to be not worth the money or headache. Granted, the sound system on your hardware is poor from the manufacturing and design, but there has to be a better way! Warning……I have found that other speakers, of any nature, bluetooth, usb bowers and wilkins, will not work properly with this sound software. You will have to totally reinstall you OS to get it out. Clean my mac can not even get out all of the crap that this software leaves after uninstall. It is not clean, it is not bug proof, it is not worth it at all in the long run.

Great sound, but with one glaring flaw.

This does not play nice with USB audio interfaces or outputting sound through HDMI. This is super obnoxious, and I have to uninstall it to get it to work. Otherwise, this is absolutely awesome. I had been looking for something that did excatly this on my PC for a while.

Not for 5k iMac or Bose Speakers

This may work well for laptops or iPads, but my experience with this app was frustrating. I have high end Bose speakers that connect via USB on a 2015 5K iMac, and I could not get it to work properly. The sound was horribly muddled and distorted. I tried everything in their support to correct it, but I never got it to work. I gave up on it long ago.

Horrid piece of junk.

So buggy! Run from this software. Tried to uninstall it using the uninstallation script from the company’s website. Errors, errors, errors. Restarted coputer and now ALL my audio outputs are gone. PIECE OF CRAP!

Worked great, at first….

I downloaded this when my laptop’s sound started sounding really funky. It fixed it brilliantly, and the ux was wonderful, until somehow the settings were changed or something changed, and my laptop’s sound is back to being really funky. There is no re-equalize button or feature, so I thought I could uninstall and and re-install it. I wasnt able to completely reinstall it, because they give you two lines of code and what are you supposed to do with that? but somehow I was able to get it to re-equalize. BUT the sound now is WORSE! and I feel stuck with crappy sound. it makes me really sad.

Boom 2 has made my computer’s built-in speakers sound like expensive headphones!

Boom 2 has significantly improved my computer’s audio output! The interface is nice and I enjoy the built-in presents such as Spacial and Fidelity. Great program and worth the purchase!

Exactly what I needed

Great for people who have hearing loss at specific frequencies. It seems… after playing guitar in various rock bands, being a child of the 80’s, mixing music and now doing voice overs and video work, my hearing is having some trouble. What I needed was a way to EQ the output from my computer to compensate for my hearing loss. This works well for that. I can stay productive and mix my audio correctly. Thank you.

Keeps crashing

At first, the sound wasn’t there whenever I would reboot. This is despite te fact that I have the “launch on reboot” setting checked. But now it just stops working while I am listening to something. I just don’t have time for this. Sounds good when it works however. Hopefully future patches will get it working properly.

Keeps Crashing

This version keeps crashing and does not work.
