Outstanding, save for a few caveats
This is a great app. Period. I won’t restate the obvious and that which has already been written.
Two points. First, the app uses the mac battery extensively. It uses the battery even when there is nothing playing. To add to the issue, it invokes Coreaudioid, a mac sub-process for sound even when there is nothing playing. This is all good when listening to music connected to the charger but when trying to save battery while traveling, I have to quit the app as, in total, the sound apps use over 3-5% CPU utilization. Once Boom 2 is stopped, all CPU utilization returns to normal, including the Coreaudioid. DEVELOPERS PLEASE FIX ASAP…ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS NO MUSIC PLAYING!!! There is no need to run the CPU up when there is no sound/signal being processed.
Second, there is another Boom app for the iPhone. Unless you burned your music personally, it’s a waste of money. The iOS app DOES NOT impact or help any music purchased from iTunes, which is most of my library. Copyright thing. It does, from my undestanding, help imported music.
You do have to play with the configuration on the mac app. Too much Boom makes the speakers distort. But, save for the points above, it’s a great app.
Note, some people note that they ‘lost sound’. Occasionally, I have to go to System Preferences / Sound and re-click on the headphone jack option. Boom sometimes messes that up; but it’s a quick fix.
